I’m in a hotel in Alexandria, LA. This city is much safer than mine as its further north and away from the coast. Many of the hotels here are sold out of rooms from people evacuating the more dangerous areas.
The tropical storm we had a couple of days ago died out with very little damage, but hurricane Laura is projected to strengthen to a category 4 hurricane shortly. Some websites are even claiming it could possibly be a category 5. It should be at my location sometime tonight. If it hits Louisiana as a category 4 or 5, many places here will be uninhabitable for a while.
This is one of the strongest storms Louisiana has seen in a long time. The strongest storm to hit Louisiana since 1856 according to this article on Forbes. Hopefully, I will have power here tomorrow, but I doubt I will have power in Lafayette. Travel will likely be impossible due to flooding and traffic jams. I will know more tomorrow.
I’m back home safe & sound. The damage in my hometown wasn’t as bad as some of the surrounding areas. The hotel I was at lost power in the middle of the night, but it was fine besides some minor damage to a wooden fence and some pool equipment.
