I originally planned on starting a YouTube channel before I started this blog but then changed my mind and got this website going first. Having a personal blog seemed more important to me because I wanted the freedom to write out my ideas on the fly without the time involved in planning, filming, editing, and uploading video content. Now that I have this website up and running, I can put some more time into starting a Youtube Channel.
Most blogging experts recommend having a particular niche category for your blog but I wanted the freedom to write about anything. I think this freedom will keep me from getting bored and make it a more fulfilling project. Later down the road, I will consider pulling some of my articles from here to create a niche blog on a subject that I find is the most enjoyable to write on.
Unlike my blog, my YouTube channel will have a niche. I want to focus on outdoor recreation. I’ve always been passionate about things like camping, fishing, hiking, hunting, kayaking, bushcraft, mountain biking, and wilderness backpacking. I’m likely to focus on the camping or wilderness backpacking sub-genre the most because it’s what I do the most.
I don’t have much experience with filming or editing so over the last few weeks I’ve been trying to get better. I downloaded ShotCut; it’s simple to use, free, and open-source video editing software. I’m not sure if I will stick with this software or switch to something else but I like it so far. I’ve also gotten a tripod and microphone to help me record video with my mobile device. I’ve got some footage on my last two wilderness adventures and plant on recording a lot more.
I will be sure to update this post after I post my first video. It could take a while with my busy life so I won’t post any dates just yet.
